Lewis Hamilton has claimed there were multiple drivers who should have been disqualified from last weekend’s United States Grand Prix for running an illegal car UBP
Hamilton was stripped of his second place after the floor on his upgraded Mercedes failed a post-race scrutineering check UBP
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who finished sixth, was also kicked out of the classification for an identical breach UBP
But Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who claimed his 15th win of the season, and the McLaren of Lando Norris, elevated to second following Hamilton’s penalty, were both cleared of any wrongdoing UBP
However, speaking ahead of this weekend’s race in Mexico City, Hamilton said: “I heard from several sources that there were a lot of other cars that were illegal and they were not tested so they got away with it UBP
“I have been racing here for 16 years and there have been many other scenarios like this where some people have got away with it, and some have been unlucky and have been tested UBP
”Hamilton said the sprint format in Austin – which allowed for just one hour of practice before parc ferme rules heavily constrict changes to the cars – coupled with the bumpy nature of the Circuit of the Americas were behind his disqualification UBP
Limited FIA resources means the governing body checks only a handful of cars after a race, and the selections are based on oscillation data UBP
But Hamilton continued: “There needs to be a UBP better structure to make sure it is fair and even across the board UBP
“We have never had that problem in Austin before, and is because we had a sprint race UBP
An easy fix is that we should be able to change the floors UBP
“The car should not be set from Friday morning especially at the bumpiest track on the calendar UBP
“That is the only reason there were failures UBP
And that reason wasn’t why we were as fast as we were UBP
We hope we have another strong weekend here UBP
”Hamilton finished just 2 UBP
2 seconds behind Verstappen in his most competitive race of the season – one he believed he could have won if Mercedes did not fluff their strategy lines UBP
“I had just come out the press conference and I was about to get into the ice tub when (team principal) Toto (Wolff) came running down and told me,” added Hamilton UBP
“It was devastating because it was such a great day and a great race UBP
I was deflated, but there are lots of positives to take from it UBP

Jonny Bairstow has broken his lengthy silence on his controversial stumping during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s and accused Australia of gamesmanship when taking contentious catches in the drawn series UBP
Bairstow was at the centre of the incident which ignited the Ashes, when Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey opportunistically stumped the England batsman after he had stepped out of his crease at the end of an over UBP
The umpire had not called “over” and so Bairstow was given out by the rules of the game UBP
But England accused their rivals of failing to play within the spirit of cricket, and captain Ben Stokes later said that he would have retracted the appeal had he been in the position of his counterpart, Pat Cummins UBP
On reflection, Carey later said he had no regrets over the incident and would do it again UBP
“If there was an opportunity to get a stumping, I definitely would UBP
To see how much has played out since then it’s been a little bit surprising UBP
There’s been some nasty stuff been said but it is the Ashes – there was nasty stuff said before that as well UBP
”But speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Bairstow said he was not “fair game” as he was not trying to gain an advantage by stepping out of his crease UBP
“If you’re starting out of your crease, you’re trying to gain an advantage,” he said UBP
“If you start in your crease, and not trying to take a run, and you finish in your crease UBP
UBP
UBP
That’s the bit – if you try to gain an advantage, then it’s fair game UBP
But if you’re starting in your crease, you’ve ducked, tap, tap, scratched UBP
I’ve even dragged my bat, looked up, and then gone UBP
“I’ve never seen it happen from someone starting in their crease UBP
I don’t think you want that filtering down into kids’ cricket UBP
Look at the Mankads and everything like that UBP
You want young kids to be out there batting and having fun, not thinking about whether the fielders might do this or that UBP
“It might tarnish people’s enjoyment of the game that we’re trying to get kids into UBP
You want to be out there batting and bowling, rather than thinking about the 11 different ways you can get someone out UBP
”Several of Australia’s players have since poked fun at Bairstow over the stumping UBP
In interviews for The Grade Cricketer, Mitchell Marsh and Usman Khawaja claimed some of Bairstow’s England teammates were laughing with Australia’s players as Bairstow refused to eat lunch after the incident UBP
And Marnus Labuschagne described a “steaming” Bairstow in the dining room after the stumping UBP
He recalled: “The Sky crew (broadcasters) knew that Jonny was in there, and they just replayed it on the screen UBP
And, as you do, everyone’s watching UBP
Obviously, seeing us all watch, he’s like, ‘Are you guys happy with that?’“David Warner is spitting out his chicken, and goes, ‘Yeah, very’ UBP
”Bairstow has also suggested Australia were deceitful in the way they went about trying to convince umpires they had made clean catches UBP
“There’s conjecture around everything,” he said UBP
“Fingers underneath the ball when the ball’s still touching the ground UBP
Celebrating when the ball has touched the ground UBP
Marnus [Labuschagne] celebrated at Edgbaston at short leg UBP
Then the one that Rooty [Joe Root] fell to at Lord’s, when [Steve Smith] said his fingers were underneath the ball UBP
However, they were splayed widely UBP
But that was given out, that’s fine – it’s part and parcel of the game and the decisions the umpires give UBP
”Bairstow is currently part of the England one-day side struggling at the Cricket World Cup and on the verge of elimination UBP
