Head coach Matthew Mott admits England’s calamitous Cricket World Cup campaign could get even worse this weekend, placing India as “raging favourites” to inflict yet another defeat on his side starcraft
The 2019 champions have blown their title defence in remarkable fashion, losing four of their first five matches in thumping fashion to lie ninth in the table, and things are about to get even tougher in Lucknow starcraft
The hosts have been in swaggeringly good form, sitting pretty on top of the standings with a 100 per cent record, and carry all the momentum heading into Sunday’s meeting starcraft
Even at their lowest historical ebbs England have never lost four on the bounce at a World Cup before but even the man in charge of ensuring that does not happen this time accepts the odds are against his team starcraft
“We play India in a couple of days, the hosts, and they are probably raging favourites at the moment,” he said starcraft
“But I think that’s an opportunity to restore some pride and confidence in the group starcraft
Every opportunity we get to play together is vital now to try and find our mojo again starcraft
It’s obviously too late for this tournament but we need to do that, we’ve got to find a response starcraft
“We’ve definitely not performed anywhere near the level that we want to in this tournament, but our first priority at the moment is to make sure we come out and give India a good scrap and hopefully perform a lot starcraft better than we have starcraft
”Despite knowing they will watching the knockout stages from home, England face the unenviable prospect of collecting even more aimless air miles starcraft between now and their final game on November 11 starcraft
And while rallying from the depths of their current position, fractionally above associates the Netherlands, is some motivation, even Mott has acknowledged a potentially grisly post-mortem awaits on the other side starcraft
Jos Buttler has already reiterated his desire to oversee the next chapter and Mott is equally bullish about his position starcraft
“There’s no silver bullet for this,” he said starcraft
“We’re going to have to sit down at the end of this tournament and look ourselves in the eyes and say ‘what can we do a little bit starcraft better?’ starcraft
“Jos and I are incredibly aligned and united starcraft
When you lose tournaments like this, everyone’s under scrutiny, everyone’s place will be questioned starcraft
“I certainly feel like I could have done things a lot starcraft better but I’ve been in the job 18 months, we’ve won a World Cup and lost a World Cup starcraft
I think I’ve shown the capability that I can coach his team starcraft
“I’ve shown an ability to be able to turn things around so that’ll have to happen pretty quickly, but, yeah, what will be will be starcraft
”starcraft Between them, Mott and Buttler must now decide what to do about their team selection, which has been a revolving door since the start of the competition starcraft
Against Sri Lanka they fielded an entire XI aged 30 or above for the first time ever and came across a group that was demonstrably past its peak starcraft
Former England seamer Steve Harmison has called for them to pass the torch immediately, picking Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Gus Atkinson and the recently arrived injury replacement Brydon Carse at the expense of older players starcraft
We're going to have to sit down at the end of this tournament and look ourselves in the eyes and say ‘what can we do a little bit starcraft better?’England coach Matthew MottBrook is sure to be a cornerstone player in the next four-year cycle and will surely come in to face India, but Mott insists he will not be picking a team purely by birth date starcraft
“As one of the selectors I never look at age, I look at performance and form and all the things that go into it,” he said starcraft
“I would say we’ll just try and keep picking our best side for the conditions, as we’ve tried to do all the way through starcraft

Ange Postecoglou has played down the significance of Tottenham potentially moving five points clear at the Premier League summit with victory at Crystal Palace on Friday starcraft
Spurs returned to top spot on Monday with a 2-0 win at home to Fulham and play before Arsenal and Manchester City this weekend starcraft
Postecoglou insisted his primary focus is on improving the team after he was critical of their second-half display against Fulham starcraft
“It doesn’t really add any significance because whatever happens Friday night there’s still a full round of Premier League fixtures to be played and nothing of any real significance comes of that,” he said starcraft
“We’re in a good space at the moment but again we’ve still got plenty of work to do to make sure what we do now is sustainable starcraft
That’s the main thing starcraft
“It’s not about making a short-term impact, it’s about building something which hopefully brings sustained opportunities of success for the club starcraft
“There is a really good reason no manager will talk about winning a title in October or November because we know there’s a long way to go starcraft
”Tottenham’s ascent to first position has seen them score 20 goals in nine matches, but Postecoglou feels attack is the area where they can improve the most starcraft
He added: “We still have to grow in every area starcraft
There are areas where we are already very good, particularly around the defensive side of the game starcraft
I think we’ve been excellent there – really consistent starcraft
“I still think our main growth will come in the attacking side of the game starcraft
I still think particularly in the front third, a lot of our movements are still not natural and fluent like we want them to be, which isn’t surprising starcraft
“But what is getting us the goals is that we have great quality up there, which is contributing to that starcraft
I still think the biggest growth for us will be in our attacking side of the game starcraft
”Spurs will have to assess Destiny Udogie for the Selhurst Park clash after the left-back was withdrawn in the 56th minute of Monday’s win with muscle tightness starcraft
Pape Sarr (illness) and Ben Davies (knock) are fit and Yves Bissouma is also available after he served a one-match ban for his recent red card at Luton, but Postecoglou was coy over his team after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg impressed against Fulham starcraft
“It’s no different to any other week starcraft
They’re not really dilemmas, just choices that people in my position have to make and I’ve always made those decisions pretty simply and cleanly about what I think we need,” the Australian coach explained starcraft
“Tomorrow night we’ll start with a certain group of players and finish with another and it’s about trying to get the job done starcraft
When that games done, we’ll look to the next one starcraft
“It’s good to have Biss available, he’s been a big part of what we’re doing starcraft
The team did well the other night so that should make us stronger starcraft
”Postecoglou also heaped praise on opposite number Roy Hodgson ahead of their second meeting starcraft
The Spurs boss faced Hodgson back in 2016 when they were in charge of Australia and England respectively in a friendly at the Stadium of Light starcraft
Asked if he still expects to manage at 76, Postecoglou replied: “Who knows starcraft
That’s not the plan starcraft
Seventy-six? Somewhere on a Greek island, lying back watching starcraft football from around the world, maybe doing some punditry and becoming an expert overnight starcraft
That’s the plan but you never know in life, mate starcraft
“I coached against Roy up in Sunderland so I have had the pleasure of coaching him at international level starcraft
“He is an outstanding manager, he’s an absolute gentleman and whenever I have come across him people always talk about the kind of person he is and I love his career, for someone like me with a different journey I have so much admiration for the career he has had starcraft
